Disappointing Visit

Christi had her first doctor visit today. We were all excited about getting to see the baby for the first time. I was able to get off of work early and go with her.

We get there and it's very crowded. Christi had to fill out a bunch of paperwork, again. I'm not sure why, but every visit she has to fill out the same little sheet. Why can't they just keep it on file? Earlier in the day when Christi called the doctor to confirm we were coming, we found out that we might not be able to get a sonogram because the lady wasn't working today. Naturally, we were not happy. I mean, why schedule us an appointment where we get our first sonogram when the lady isn't working? Isn't a sonogram really the point of the visit? I know, they do other important things, but for the parents to be this is the most important part. Thankfully, we saw another couple there had a sonogram print out and later found out that our doctor was going to do the sonogram.

We had to wait forever to get seen. Because they were busy and were behind schedule, they were running around trying to get everyone as fast as they could. Normally the sonogram is the first part of the visit, but we had to go back and do some medical history paperwork and Christi had her lab work done (blood taken, pee test, physical). She was most nervous about getting her blood taken and it lived up to her expectations - it hurt.

After being moved back and forth around the office, we finally we able to see the doctor in the exam room. My cousin works in the doctors office and she was talking to us in there. They have a TV on the wall that is hooked up to the sonogram machine. Since we had to wait on the doctor, she turned it on the TV for us. A few minutes later our doctor comes in and she was trying to get it back on the sonogram machine and ended up turning the whole thing off. Thankfully, I was there to save the day and got it back on the sonogram machine.

Finally, the moment we had been waiting for. When she was going the sonogram, I couldn't really see anything. But, I knew I had no idea what I was really looking for, so I was waiting for her to show me what I was supposed to be looking for. We saw the sack that the baby is in but couldn't really see the baby. When she turned the sonogram wand the right way, we could see a bubble shaped image that was the baby. Inside you could see a light flashing - that was the heart. That was pretty cool. However, the baby wasn't as big as it was supposed to be.

Our doctor wasn't sure she was doing the sonogram machine right, so she wanted to go get another doctor - one we had never met - to come in and take a look. Instead of taking the wand thing out of Christi, she tells me to get up and hold it for her. No, really. So here I am with the sonogram wand in the exam room with Christi. What the hell am I supposed to do? Stand here and hold it? Of course not! I try to find the baby, much to Christi's amusement. So here I am playing with the sonogram machine trying to find the baby and the doctors come back in. It was a little awkward, but I don't think they cared.

The other doctor confirmed what our doctor said. The baby is smaller than expected. Obviously, we were scared to death. However, nothing was wrong - just our timeline. Instead of being almost 8 weeks pregnant, Christi is about 6 and a half weeks pregnant and it's too early to really see anything. So, we have to come back next week and get another sonogram. Unfortunately we didn't get any pictures from the visit today, so that was pretty disappointing. Very disappointing, actually. We were both really sad. Apparently I have bad luck when it comes to doctor's visits. At least I didn't get stabbed by nurse Helga this time.

Next week we are hopeful to get some good pictures. Of course, I will post it here as soon as we get them. And yes, they will be up faster than the Vegas and car pictures, which are still coming. We've just been insanely busy at work and also have been hanging out with Jody, Jessica, McKenzie, and Kaden. It's crazy how big he has gotten already.

That's all for tonight. Check back later for more pictures.
