Weekend Happenings

We had a busy weekend this weekend. Saturday I was lucky enough to get a ticket and go to the GT-UNC game with my friend Jason. It was really strange to be back on campus. They've already begun construction on the Clough Student Center (or whatever it is) and Yellow Jacket Park, which they were so anal about keeping in pristine condition, is completely destroyed. Same goes for the library parking lot and apparently the library fountain is also going to have to be removed as part of the project. I guess the band is going to have to find a new place to play 'Budweiser' before the games now.

Jason and I walked around campus for a little while before going to the game. I was impressed with the large amount of tailgaters since the kickoff was at 12. The crowd was pretty good and the weather was great for most of the game (more on that later.) I'd say we had about 50,000 on hand for the game, so it wasn't full but I wasn't expecting that either. We played a great game and should have scored more points that we did, but overall it was a good win (minus the kicking game.)

There was a fight in my section between GT fans, which was pretty sad to see, honestly. It appeared to be a case of people wanting to stand up and watch the game while the people behind them wanted them to sit down. I like standing up, but I can see why you should also respect the people sitting behind you. Jaybo Shaw's dad pulled a guy down from behind (person was standing) and they got into an argument. One of the other guy's friends when and got police. While that was going on there was a bunch of yelling and some pushing. The cops came and removed the guy who was pulled down and about 4 of his group. One guy was fighting really hard not to be removed, but the cops pulled out the mace and he stopped fighting (they didn't discharge it, thankfully, since there was several hundred people right around who would have been affected.) Noone around me knew what started the fight, but we speculated it was a sit vs stand dispute. We heard that the group who was kicked out was warned earlier in the game for behavior (unsure what for), but I am don't know if that is true or not. As we were debating this, one of the group's wives (maybe girlfriend) was yelling at Jaybo's dad and his group that they were all GT fans and they shouldn't be fighting. After they were removed, she stood up, flicked them off, and then started to dance around like a crazy person. Naturally, the police came right back and removed her too. She fought the hardest our of everyone but the cop just carried her up the steps. Crazy

Right after all of that the rain hit and it came hard. I had a rain jacket but it didn't have a hood, so I was soaked. It was worth it though since we played really well and I sing the Ramblin Wreck with the team at the end of the game. Lots of fun.

While I was at the game, Christi went to a consignment store with her mom and bought a few maternity clothes and things for Landon as well. She found him some great Christmas clothes and other outfits and of course, another pair of shoes. We have an addiction. She wasn't the only person to buy Landon something, either. I found a really awesome GT jersey at Tailgater's Alley and had to get it for him. It's a #21 jersey, of course.

Later Saturday afternoon we stayed at Christi's parents house and ate dinner as well as watched some more football games on TV. Her brother Jason (not the same Jason I went to the game with - always confusing!) weren't craving what they cooked for dinner, so we decided to go to Caliente's and get some Cal-Mex burritos. They were very good, as usual. When we got back home we played a few games of Scrabble. It was fun, but I need some work on my vocabulary. It's hard to think of words when you only have a few letter options and limited space to play them in, especially if 5 of your 7 tiles are vowels.

Sunday I watched the 1st half of the Falcons game while Christi worked on a painting for Landon's room. I'll post pictures of it when she finishes; it's going to look really awesome. Around half-time, my mom and her boyfriend came over to our house to look at Landon's room. It was their first time seeing what we had done to the room. They stayed for a little while and we later showed them pictures from our 4D sonogram (yet to be posted) and the DVD of the entire sonogram (unsure if I can / should post since you probably won't know what's going on). After they left we went back to Christi's parent's house.

As we were pulling out of the driveway, I remembered that a friend of mine had invited me to play in a pick-up scrimmage between 2 of the local adult league teams. I ran back inside to get my things and played soccer for a few hours after I dropped Christi off back at her parents house. I played OK, still have some rust on my shots on goal but overall it was fun. They're supposed to play every week at the same time, so maybe I will start playing with them. We'll see; I don't want to commit to anything because Landon will be here soon and who knows what our schedules will be like then. I still play pick-up on Wednesday every now and then, but I haven't gone every week.

Besides watching the premier of a few TV shows (we're Amazing Race fans), we ended up relaxing around the house when we had time. I have some work to do around the house, but it didn't get done this weekend. The grass needs cutting again because it poured all week, but I think it will be ok until next weekend.

That's about it for this weekend. I've been slammed at work this week and ended up working some overtime both yesterday and today. I don't mind though because it means I'm having to do some real work that warrants staying overtime. Christi has been busy at school (as always) and is trying to get things worked out for maternity leave and how much time off she will have.

Time to get going. Stay tuned for more updates
