Eventful Weekend

The Cherry Blossom Festival was here the past 2 weeks. It's probably the biggest even that happens in Macon. As my friend put it, it's the most non-Japanese Japanese Festival in the world. There were a lot of activities the past few days. It all culminates with a street party on Saturday night and an Arts and Craft Festival on the weekend. Unfortunately, both of those got rained out due to some pretty nasty weather rolling through. That didn't keep up from being busy, though.

Friday night we had a big family get together on Christi's side of the family. Most of her cousins were there, coming from as far as Tennessee. Her aunt likes to come down and see the Cherry Blossom Festival as well as visit with Christi's grandmother. We ate at Jeneane's, a local country cooking style restaurant, and spent most of the time catching up with some family members that we haven't seen in a few months. It was a good time.

We started off Saturday by waking up earlier than normal. Why? Because we had to be at the race registration early to pick up our race packet. Yep, Christi and I ran a road race. Part of the Cherry Blossom Festival is the 10k / 5k runs. We ran the 5k and there was a pretty decent crowd, probably 800 or so. It was good. Crowded pretty early, but fun. I think we'd definitely do it next year. I was unsure how much I would like it, but there's definitely a rush while doing it and a sense of accomplishment when you are done. Our time wasn't quite what Christi was hoping for, but I thought we did well.

After that I spent 2.5 hours doing 2 homework problems. Yea, this class is that exciting. While I was doing that, Christi and her mom were working hard getting decorations and food ready for Jason and Lynn's wedding shower. They were throwing this shower for Jason and Lynn later that afternoon, so there were a lot of finishing touches to put on things. Christi decorated a cake she and her mom made; it was stunning. The level of detail on the cake was incredible. I should have a picture of that posted soon. I think you will agree with me.

Sunday we tried to go to the Arts and Crafts Festival, but when we got there most of the vendors were packing up or trying to decide to stay open or not. About 10 minutes into walking around it started to rain again - hard. We decided to skip that this year (it ended up getting cancelled shortly after) and go eat lunch. Landon made the biggest mess out of a Cracker Barrel biscuit. He loves them, but he also loves to break them into tiny pieces and push the crumbs everywhere. That's becoming a trend, unfortunately.

Christi did a Zumba class later in the afternoon and I did some work around the house while Landon slept. We wound down a busy weekend with some grocery shopping (prices are going up a lot!) and threw a Kashi pizza (delicious!) while we watched Despicable Me. It was a great movie and Landon loved it, especially the minions. He had the biggest smile on his face whenever they came on the screen.

That was our weekend. As you can see, we were running around (literally) while getting some things done. It was a fun few days despite the crummy weather. How was your weekend?

Despicable Me was great. You recommended it a while back and we finally received it. I had high expectations and it exceed them; overall it was great.
